let’s get down to brass tacks

i’m Miriam, hi there!

I hate about sections since I don’t like talking myself up, so instead, I’ll talk about Dunamis Communications.

Seems like a funny name, right?

Well, now that you mention it…

Dunamis Communications gets its name from my first Thoroughbred gelding, who we called Dunamis. In the racing world he was known as “First to Know.” Wildly infamous (and by this I mean not famous. At all.), Dunamis raced for three years before he was forced into retirement for being “slow, lazy, and too sweet.”

I adopted him in early 2021, where he lived with us six months before his unexpected passing. In that short time, I came to know my gelding well and with tremendous love. We were the stuff of every horse-girl movie ever.

But Dunamis was not only a stunning, penny-colored TB.

He was a fourth generation grandson of Secretariat, the Triple Crown legend. Since Dunamis’ passing, Secretariat has become a cult-classic name in our house. From the memorabilia to the research to the topping my all-time favorite sports story chart, the Big Red horse from Virginia and his legacy is close to my heart.

Memories of my “Dooner boy” remind me, everyday, to run my race with the heart of his grandfather, Big Red. To give everything I have in what I do. In Greek this name means, "soul-excellence, miraculous power” and is one of the derivatives of our word, dynamite.

I try to live my life with dynamite passion and enthusiasm, while remembering to be excellent of character and soul. And naming my little place on the web after such a concept not only felt right, but is sure to be a winner.

But now for the necessary (forced) “about me” stuff….

I graduated Crown College (Minnesota) with a Bachelors in Communication and Christian Studies.

From there, I’ve gone on to work in journalism, sales, PRCA rodeo, the NFL, copywriting, and more. I just love what I do. If that means I take on projects a little out of left field, I’m happy as Secretariat hamming it up in the winner’s circle.

At home I’m a woman of faith, family oriented, a horse mama, and have WAY too many Breyer horse models in my office. I enjoy coffee, aviation, pirate history, and film.

May or may not be a cowboy boot hoarder and a turquoise jewelry snob on the side.
